 What is autism?

Autism is a lifelong condition. Children with autism have difficulty communicating, socialising and knowing how to play. Making sense of the world is hard and the condition can be very isolating. However, the right input early on can make a great difference.

APPLIED BehaviourAL ANALYSIS (ABA)

Quest School uses a distinctive teaching methodology, Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), which involves the application of behavioural principles developed through systematic and extensive scientific research.  This is a fundamentally positive approach to teaching, embracing the role of reinforcement in the process of development.

Where appropriate for pupils, curriculum delivery is of a ‘small steps’ approach, where tasks are broken down into smaller components, and taught systematically, hence building up pupils’ skills in a methodical way.

Teaching may take place in a variety of contexts:

·      Discrete trial teaching (DTT): a structured, artificial setting, which allows for greater intensity of teaching.

·      Natural Environment Teaching (NET): a structured context focusing on generalising skills within the natural environment.

·      Group teaching times for National Curriculum subjects, with pupils having 1:1 support as required.

·      Educational visits outside the school environment.
